Belden extends its Hirschmann™ product range with a new software platform release for industrial Ethernet switches
Like its previous versions, release 7.0 of the tried, tested and proven Hirschmann™ software platform for the managed switches of the MACH, MICE, Rail and OCTOPUS families also offers a scope of functions nomally only found in backbone systems.
These include comprehensive management, diagnosis and filter functions, plus various redundancy methods, security mechanisms and real-time applications. In addition to DVMRP and PIM-DM, the new PIM-SM multicast protocol is provided for layer 3, enabling optimum utilization of bandwidth.
The configuration, security and service functions have also been further enhanced. It is now possible to create configurations offline, without any active connection to the switches. These can be stored locally and copied to the devices later on.
The ARC protocol also enables an automatic and therefore quick and reliable MRP ring configuration. Several users can be authenticated on the same switch port with IEEE802.1x multi-client authentication. The new software platform also provides further service functions for IP telephony, such as LLDP-MED and Voice VLAN.
